It takes about five minutes per window and all you need is a metal tape measure. And don’t worry — a real person double-checks every order before anything is made.
This decides which frame you’ll choose later. Most UK windows have a recess deep enough for an inside (recess) fit.
Shutters sit neatly inside the window opening for a clean, built-in look. You’ll need a recess at least 30mm deep.
Shutters mount on the wall over the opening — ideal for shallow recesses or flush windows.
Always measure in millimetres and write down every figure — we’ll guide you on the rest.
Measure the full width of the recess at the top, middle and bottom. Recesses are rarely perfectly square — that’s normal. Write all three down.
Tip: use the smallest width when you enter it in the designer.
Measure the full height on the left, centre and right, from the top of the recess down to the sill. Again, note all three figures.
Measure how deep the recess is from the wall to the window. This tells us whether a recess fit will work, or whether a face-fit frame is best.
Window handles, tiled sills, vents or radiators can affect the design. Jot them down (or snap a photo) and add it to your order — our experts will factor it all in.
You really can’t get this wrong. Enter your measurements in the designer and our team reviews every single order with you before production. Measuring is a starting point, not a final commitment.
